Branding P5-js Identity System Strategy
Rebranding for Mount Wilson Observatory
Mount Wilson Observatory (MWO), a key astronomical site since 1904 and home to historic telescopes like the 100-inch Hooker telescope, underwent a transformative rebranding to refresh its image and broaden its appeal. In this project, I developed a modern visual identity for MWO, incorporating a new logo reflecting its status as a portal to the cosmos, a color palette inspired by the night sky, and sleek, contemporary typography. The rebranding aimed to reinvigorate interest in astronomy through updated brand guidelines that ensure consistent and engaging communication, appealing to both the scientific community and the general public.

The new logo for MWO draws inspiration from the observatory's distinctive architecture, featuring smooth, rounded shapes that echo its domes and telescopes. The design reflects the observatory’s role as a window to the universe. Additionally, the newsletter design mirrors the observatory itself, unfolding to reveal a moon, symbolizing an open ceremony inviting all to explore the cosmos.

I developed two unique events tailored to different audience segments. The first, "Eyes of Stardust: Gazing Upward and Inward," invites participants to explore meteorites, tracing the origins of humanity back to the cosmic dust from the Big Bang. By studying these celestial objects, we delve into the essence of our existence.

The "Eyes of Stardust" event immerses participants in the wonder of meteorites, offering a unique perspective on our origins. By examining these ancient cosmic travelers, we uncover stories of the universe and our place within it, highlighting the profound connection between us and the cosmos.

The second event, "Talks & Telescope," is a quarterly highlight at MWO. This series invites renowned experts in the field of astrophysics to share their insights, followed by telescope viewing sessions. These events provide an enriching experience for both amateur stargazers and seasoned astronomers.

The website features a palette of blue and black, mirroring the brand's theme colors. This color scheme is inspired by the serene and mysterious night sky, creating an immersive digital experience that reflects MWO's identity and mission.

To enhance user experience, I designed a narrow, elongated brochure. This format ensures that the brochure is not cumbersome to hold, offering a better reading experience while maintaining a sleek and modern aesthetic.
